Deliberation: Why Important Answers Need a Structured Challenge
You ask an AI a serious question - an investment thesis, a strategic recommendation, a research synthesis. You get one answer. It sounds confident. But was it right? Did it miss an assumption? Did it overfit to one interpretation of the data? You have no way to know without manually re-running the same question across different models and reconciling the answers yourself.
This is the single-model problem. And for high-stakes knowledge work - due diligence, board prep, strategic planning, research synthesis - it's a real risk. Not because AI models are bad, but because any single model response is inherently fragile.
The fragility of a single response
Every large language model has biases - in training data, in reasoning style, in how it handles ambiguity. When you ask GPT-4, Claude, and Gemini the same question with the same context, you often get meaningfully different answers. Not wrong answers. Different reasoning paths that surface different assumptions, risks, and conclusions.
For casual tasks, this doesn't matter. For decisions that affect your company, your portfolio, or your research conclusions, it matters a lot.
The problem is that most tools give you exactly one model's opinion and present it as the answer. The disagreement, the uncertainty, the alternative interpretations - all invisible.
What Deliberation does
Korvo's experimental Deliberation mode takes a different approach. In one bounded round, Korvo:
- Frames the question - identifies intent, ambiguity, assumptions, decision criteria, and missing information
- Builds a thesis - Blue produces numbered claims, evidence references, assumptions, and known weaknesses
- Challenges specific claims - Red records the severity, rationale, evidence, and resolution condition for each issue
- Revises and audits - Blue responds to each issue, then Red checks what was resolved, partially resolved, or left open
- Synthesizes and preserves - the final answer, strongest opposing case, revisions, uncertainty, and inspectable artifacts remain linked
Why this matters for serious work
Consider writing an investment memo. A single model might produce a solid analysis but miss a key risk that another model surfaces. Or it might frame the opportunity in a way that's subtly biased by its training data.
With Deliberation, a thesis must survive a targeted critique and citation audit. Challenges cannot disappear silently: each is accepted, qualified, rebutted, revised, or left unresolved.
This is not about finding the "correct" answer - it's about making uncertainty visible and giving you a stronger foundation for your decision.
The core principle
Do not hide model uncertainty. Make competing reasoning visible, then synthesize deliberately.
How provider roles work
Korvo prefers two distinct configured providers or model IDs for Blue and Red. The UI identifies both and does not imply independent agreement when the configuration is correlated.
Both roles receive the same scope-correct grounded context. Project runs use project evidence; Scratchpad runs use inbox-scoped evidence and memory.
What you see in the UI
During a Deliberation run, Korvo shows live progress across framing, thesis, critique, revision, audit, and synthesis. The final result includes:
- Final answer - the synthesized primary result
- Agreement summary - what most agents agreed on
- Disagreement summary - where answers differed materially
- Open uncertainty - what remains unresolved
- Individual drafts - expandable for full inspection
Full artifacts are encrypted locally, with content-free provenance links for integrity checks.
Honest about tradeoffs
Deliberation can use up to six model calls. Since Korvo is BYOK, those calls use your provider accounts. A conservative token and spend preflight appears before the run begins.
It is slower than a normal response. Fixed output caps, stage timeouts, cancellation, and hard local scheduling limits keep the beta bounded.
Deliberation does not guarantee correctness. A longer debate or model agreement is not proof. The feature remains beta until real-project dogfood and blinded held-out evaluation pass.
